Bandhavgarh National Park The ramparts of the Old Fort are visible from the grassy meadow of Raj Behra, Chakradhara and Sehra. The majestic structure now in ruins stands imposingly on the top of the mountain. The grand wall and temple appear prominent from down below.  The human evidence stands out in striking contrast with the pristine forests and grasslands of this tiger land.  In these natural surroundings, a sense of calm pervades your mind and body. Bandhavgarh National Park is one of the most beautiful spectacles on Earth.

The Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve heaven is one of the most successful breeding grounds of the tiger. Bandhavgarh National Park augurs hope for the future of the critically endangered species. Established as a National Park in 1968, it is now under the umbrella of Project Tiger.   During the initial period, the park constituted an area of 105 sq km with 400 sq km of the buffer. After its declaration as project tiger in 1993, the area has been subsequently increased to about 1100 sq.km Panpatha Wildlife Sanctuary has now become a part of the Bandhavgarh National Park and is included in the tourism zone.

Wild animals seen in the forests are the tiger, leopard, wild dog, sloth bear, gaur, spotted deer, sambar, barking deer, gray langur, and wild boar. The bird species seen are the chestnut tailed starling, common wood shrike, peafowl, wooly necked stork, changeable hawk-eagle, crested serpent eagle, honey buzzard, golden oriole, painted spurfowl, red spurfowl, Indian pitta, Northern pintail, common teal, lesser whistling teal, and many more.    

With excellent conservation measures, the number of tigers in the park and the buffer zone has increased. The tiger reserve receives a very large number of tourists who come here for tiger safari and birding. The tourism zones have been divided into three gates namely, Khitauli, Tala and Magadhi.     

Fact File

Bandhavgarh National Park is situated in Umaria District of Madhya Pradesh in Central India.  It is approachable by road from Jabalpur, Katni (75 km and Satna (226). Khajuraho (250 km) is about 6 hrs drive from Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve. The distance between Kanha to Bandhavgarh National Park is 250 km.

From Jabalpur, the tiger reserve is 176 plus km via Shahpur Umaria Route. Jabalpur Katni route is about 180 plus km. Jabalpur is well connected by air to New Delhi. It very well connected with major cities by rail and road networks.

Kanha National Park Online Safari Booking - Zones

Tourism Zones – Kanha In recent times Kanha National Park has been divided into four tourism zones. These are regulated by separate entry gates created for tourism purposes.
