Tourism Zones – Kanha
In recent times Kanha National Park has been divided into four tourism zones.
These are regulated by separate entry gates created for tourism purposes. For
tiger, entry is allowed to tourists who hold a permit for that gate. The Kanha
zone is a prime zone and hence the sightings are good compare to another zone.
Subject to specific routes entry can be made from any gate.
Kanha Zone
This
is a prime zone that ensconces Sal belt, mixed forests, grassy meadows and the number of water bodies like Sarvan Taal. The meadows are preferred for tiger
safaris as maximum numbers of tiger sightings take place here. Elephant rides
or tiger show are regularly held here which increase the chance of sighting
tigers. Vehicles allowed 45.
Kisli Zone
Kisli The zone lies adjacent to Kanha Zone and has the same habitat type. The meadows are
smaller but nevertheless, tiger sightings are as good. The Nakti ghati anicut is
good for birding and offers a good chance to see the tigers in dense forests.
The road leads to Bhamni Dadar Sightseeing point. Tiger shows are organized
regularly for the benefit of the tourists. Vehicles allowed 20.
Sarhi
Zone
Sarai Zone is a recent addition to the tourism infrastructure at Kanha. The area consists of dense mixed forests and is considered as the most scenic. This is a good place to see the Nilgai or Blue Bull antelope besides tigers and other animals. The gate does not have accommodations close by hence tourists stay at the Khatia village. The entry for tiger safari at Sarhi is through the Khatia Gate used for entry into Kanha and Kisli Zones. Vehicles allowed 30.
Mukki Zone
This is used mostly by tourists staying on the Mukki side of the Park. The topography is less hilly with marshy grasslands at Sounder and Bishanpura. These are ideal places to look for Hard Ground Swamp Deer and tigers. The wetlands harbor many water birds. Vehicles allowed 45.
